Ways To Organize For Activists

  • Offer hope to others and center that care on the least privileged people in this country first. There are so many ways you can keep others positive and uplifted
  • Learn about laws, locally and nationally
  • Rally and support those that are in the Senate and Congress whose voices need to be elevated. Do the same for people at local levels
  • Email and call people in politics at all levels. have a clear and concise demand that you want from them. What changes do you wish to see in them? What changes do you want to see in your community and country? Can you create a group for people that works as a call center?
  • Offer to accompany people places if they ever feel unsafe or overwhelmed
  • Stand up for others. Example: This means calling out your racist relatives and partners, that means saying something to the man yelling racial slurs at people of color. That means recording and photographing police interactions with people of color. That means speaking up next time your best friend cat calls a woman or makes her feel unsafe
  • Contact those at local levels in politics doing good work and ask what they need you to do to help them. if you can travel do this in more cities and states than just your own
  • Contact people you know in other states and ask them what their plan is to make a difference, share this list with them. Remind them that they are responsible for creating change as well. Reach out to all of your friends and family and do things off this list together
  • Amplify voices of color and amplify organizations that need more support. Bring groups of your people to their rally's and meetings
  • Set up booths, panels, small speaking groups etc. You wont accomplish anything in your community if you do not get active and get to know your community
  • Don't leave any marginalized group out of your fight and never assume one problem is happening only in one place.
  • Talk on social media about activism and share information
  • Get to know people you are following or that are following you online and reach out to them, encourage them to get active
  • Educate others. Don't assume educating yourself is enough. Learn about the marginalized people in this country and their history, also learn about the structures in this country that are keeping people marginalized and how they intersect, then spread that knowledge
  • Educate your children. Children are not too young to understand their privilege along with racism, islamophobia, homophobia, transphobia, sexism, etc they need to not only understand what it is but how to advocate for others, stand up for themselves, and they need to be taught real words so that they have language to match what they have already been seeing in the world their entire lives
  • Open your homes to the community, created space to talk, heal, and organize
  • Donate to places that normally get very little funding. Example: if all abortion clinic donations are going to Planned Parenthood imagine how little money independent clinics are getting in rural areas where they are doing the same work but with less support. Find them, and support them
  • Instead of always just donating to something alone create Go Fund Me accounts and get active both online and in real life and pull in donations from others
  • Gather people for letter writing. You can write to organizations offering your services, congress, abortion clinics, etc. Example: people putting in the good work need uplifting, a doctor performing abortions and officering healthcare to the oppressed in extremely hateful areas would probably greatly appreciate a short and kind note and maybe even a gift card to go along with it. We forget what they go through to protect the rights of others.
  • Become an escort for an abortion clinic visit
  • If you have the ability teach people how to budget their money
  • Help people apply for jobs
  • Create jobs
  • Create a penpal system where people can talk to others from all over and let them vent and offer love. This could even be done with exchanging numbers or emails
  • Don't wait for someone else to lead you, recognize your own power
  • Protest, but do so less to get the bad guy to see you and more to create a community of people that support and protect each other. Meet those people at the protests and connect with them. They are looking for community just like you
  • Create petitions. Go to the streets and talk to the people to get more to sign the petitions. Do not solely rely on social media to carry it or you
  • Talk to people you wouldn't normally talk to. Talk to people that challenge things you believe in. Because how else will you ever understand why nearly 60% of white women would vote for a man that hates women?
  • Random acts of kindness. This can mean whatever you want it to mean
  • Volunteer. And not just at places that are easy and convenient. Start with phone call centers and shelters.
  • Create a weekly checklist for yourself of ways in which you want to get involved
  • Create healing groups and workshops to help everyone's mental health
  • Offer services to your community, rides, money, babysitting, cleaning someone's house, etc
  • Reach out to people and check on them, even people that you don't consider your close friend
  • Reach out to local activist organizations and ask what they need on all levels from those supporting them
  • Follow through, don't ask ways you can help and than not do it. Ask and gather people to organize a plan
  • Create groups to gather others to exercise & stay healthy
  • Art groups to make protest posters
  • Volunteer to protect religious spaces
  • Ask people if they are okay when you see them with police officers
  • Donate in the form of supporting Black businesses
  • Make fun days for children to get their mind off of current events
  • Listen to the voices of our youth
  • Talk to your community about after school programs for children especially those of color to keep them off of the streets and away from police and gangs
  • Do things not related to activism and get those you organize with involved
